Google Finally Adds “Undo Send” Feature to Gmail
It’s an experimental feature we’ve been using for 6 years, but today it’s finally available to everyone who uses Gmail! It’s the new “Undo Send” option in Gmail.
If you’ve ever accidentally sent an email to the wrong person or realized you made a mistake right after sending, you can now “Undo Send” and stop the email before it’s too late.
Enabling “Undo Send” in Gmail
It’s easy to enable this new feature, simply login to Gmail and select the settings gear then scroll about half way down where you’ll see the new feature. We recommend giving yourself enough time to realize you made a mistake and undo the send (e.g. 20-30 seconds).
Not Yet Available for Google Apps for Work
Unfortunately, this feature is not yet a standard feature for our Google Apps for Work clients. However, this feature still can be enabled through the “Labs” feature within your Google Apps for Work account. Simply login to your Google Apps for Work account, select the settings gear in the upper right corner, followed by the “Labs” tab at the top of the page. In the “Search for a lab:” box, type in “Undo” and under the available labs, you’ll find the “Undo Send” option. Enable the option and save changes at the bottom of the page.
You’ve just enabled the same feature to “Undo Send” that is standard in Gmail. Click on the settings gear in the upper right corner and scroll down under the general tab until you locate the “Undo Send” feature. Set the cancellation period to something that will give you adequate time to cancel the email (e.g. 20-30 seconds.)
That’s it, you’re all done!
